Overview

The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is a stunning alternative to the well-known Roopkund Trek, which is currently closed. This trek offers breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayan ranges and is an excellent choice for both beginners and seasoned trekkers alike. Ali and Bedni Bugyals, renowned in the trekking community, are considered some of the most beautiful alpine meadows in the world. Experience moderate hiking trails, captivating landscapes, and a serene atmosphere as you traverse through this untouched wilderness.

Itinerary

Day 1
From Dehradun to Lohajung
Your adventure begins in Dehradun, where you'll join our vehicles for a scenic drive to Lohajung, the starting point of the trek. Departing at 7 a.m., the journey winds through the picturesque Kumaon Valley, passing through charming towns like Almora and Kausani. Enjoy stunning views of peaks such as Kamet and Panchachuli along the way. Arriving in Lohajung by evening, you’ll check into a guesthouse for the night. Lohajung, located at 2300 meters, is not only the starting point for many popular treks but also features a quaint market to explore or enjoy a sunset from your guesthouse balcony. (Pick-up from Rishikesh is also available at 8 a.m. from Natraj Chauk.)
Day 2
From Lohajung to Tolpani
After a warm-up session and briefing, set out on your trek. Following the serene Neel Ganga River, the initial trail descends before crossing a metal bridge. From there, the path climbs gently towards Didina, which takes about two hours. The final stretch to Tolpani is a gradual ascent, providing glimpses of the beautiful Ali Bugyal. Arriving at Tolpani in the late afternoon, you’ll set up camp and enjoy the tranquil environment.
Day 3
From Tolpani to Abin Kharak/Khobal Tal
An early start is planned for this day to capture the best views. The trek begins with a short ascent to the Ali Bugyal Ridge, followed by a relatively easy path with flat stretches. As you walk across the expansive meadows of Ali Bugyal, surrounded by towering mountains, you'll be awestruck by the natural beauty. Nanga Ghunti and Trishuli peak prominently in the east, providing a stunning backdrop. Spend the night camping in the serene Khobal Tal or Abin Kharak, nestled in a forested area.
Day 4
From Abin Kharak/Khobal Tal to Ghairoli Patal
This day features a leisurely trek with minimal elevation gain as you make your way to Bedni Bugyal. The distinction between Ali and Bedni Bugyals is subtle, with Bedni Bugyal featuring a small pond known as Bedni Kund—a perfect lunch spot. After enjoying your meal, ascend a short trail to the top of Bedni for panoramic views of the surroundings, including the iconic Roopkund Lake trail (currently closed for camping due to a court order). Descend to Ghairoli Patal, your campsite surrounded by dense forests.
Day 5
From Ghairoli Patal to Wan and Drive to Lohajung
After breakfast, trek from Ghairoli Patal to Wan, where you’ll board a vehicle for the return journey to Lohajung. Arrive in Lohajung by evening. It’s advisable to book your return flight from Kathgodam/Haldwani after 9 p.m. to allow time for any road delays.
Day 6
From Lohajung to Dehradun
On the final day, depart from Lohajung for Dehradun/Rishikesh. The journey takes about 8-9 hours, with expected arrival in Dehradun late in the evening. For Rishikesh, allow for an additional hour of travel time. Book your return flight from Dehradun/Rishikesh after 9 p.m. for convenience.
