Located in Uttarakhand, the Kedarkantha trek is packed with natural beauty and rich cultural history. It’s said to be tied to the ancient Indian epic, “The Mahabharata.” The name itself is rooted in mythology, with "Kedar" being another name for Lord Shiva and "Kantha" meaning throat. Regardless of the myths, one thing is for sure – this trek offers a path to inner peace and a chance to reconnect with yourself.
Standing tall at 12,500 feet, the Kedarkantha Peak offers panoramic views that are simply breathtaking. The trek takes place in Uttarakashi’s Western Garhwal region and showcases two different worlds across the seasons. From April to June, you'll find temperatures around 20 degrees, making it a pleasant summer hike. However, during the winter months from November to February, the temperature plunges to as low as -10 degrees, transforming the landscape into a snowy paradise – perfect for skiing or a thrilling winter trek.
What makes this trek even more special is that it's one of the few Himalayan treks where you can witness snow as early as November and up to April. This is a big draw for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts. As you journey through this trail, you’ll also pass through the Govind Ballabh Pant National Park (Govind National Park), a sanctuary for rare Himalayan wildlife like snow leopards, Golden Eagles, Brown Bears, and more.
