The Kuari Pass Trek is a breathtaking journey through the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, offering stunning views of some of India’s most iconic peaks, including Mt. Nanda Devi and Mt. Dronagiri. This trek is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers, with its easy to moderate difficulty level and well-defined trails.

The trek spans four days of hiking (six days including travel), beginning from the village of Dhak, near Joshimath, and winding through charming villages, lush oak and rhododendron forests, and serene campsites. In winter, the trail transforms into a snowy wonderland, with snow-covered trees and landscapes that add a magical touch.

The highlight of the trek is reaching Kuari Pass (3,870 meters), where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the towering Himalayan peaks. The trek offers a unique blend of natural beauty, adventure, and peaceful surroundings, making it a perfect choice for those looking to explore the Himalayas.

Overview

The Kuari Pass trek is a must-do adventure, whether you're an experienced trekker or a beginner looking for your first Himalayan experience. It offers breathtaking views of some of India's most famous peaks, including Mt. Nanda Devi (25,673 ft) and Mt. Dronagiri (23,182 ft). While the trek is stunning year-round, winter adds a magical touch, with snow blanketing the forest floor and oak leaves dusted with snowflakes, creating a scene straight out of a fairy tale.

The trek spans four days (six days when including travel from Rishikesh) and starts from the village of Dhak, near Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region. The trail takes you through the Nanda Devi National Park and offers a relatively easy to moderate trek, perfect for both seasoned trekkers and those new to the Himalayas.

Day 1
Haridwar to Joshimath (273 km | 8-9 hours)
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Haridwar to Joshimath. If you opt for our transportation service, we will meet you at 9 a.m. in Haridwar. The drive takes you through winding mountain roads and offers stunning views of the rivers and valleys below. Upon arrival in Joshimath, settle into a guesthouse or hotel and enjoy the serene atmosphere of this mountain town.
Day 2
Joshimath to Dhak Village & Trek to Guling Camp (5 km | 3-4 hours)
After an early breakfast, we will drive to Dhak Village, the starting point of the trek. From Dhak, you will begin your hike up to Guling Camp, passing through the traditional village of Tugashi. The landscape shifts from open trails to dense oak forests, and the first glimpse of the forest's beauty will greet you. After a leisurely hike, you will reach Guling by afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings of the campsite nestled deep in the forest.
Day 3
Trek to Tali Camp (6 km | 4-5 hours)
Today, the trek ascends steadily toward Tali Camp. Although the trail is uphill, it is not too steep, and you will find yourself immersed in the heart of the oak and rhododendron forests. The Tali campsite is a serene spot, and you’ll be welcomed by the trek team with hot drinks and snacks upon your arrival.
Day 4
Trek to Kuari Pass (3,870m) & Back to Tali Camp (6-7 hours)
This is the most exciting and memorable day of the trek. You’ll trek through beautiful meadows and snowfields (in winter) to reach Kuari Pass. The views from Kuari Pass are truly awe-inspiring, with peaks like Nanda Devi, Neelkanth, Dronagiri, Hathi Ghoda, Pangarchulla, and Chaukhamba visible in the distance. After soaking in the panoramic views and enjoying your time at the top, you’ll descend back to Tali Camp for the night.
Day 5
Trek from Tali Camp to Dhak Village & Drive to Joshimath
Wake up to a stunning sunrise over the Himalayas and have breakfast before descending from Tali Camp back to Dhak Village. The descent is about 9 km, after which a vehicle will take you back to Joshimath. You’ll have the evening to explore Joshimath or relax after the trek.
Day 6
Drive from Joshimath to Haridwar (273 km | 8-9 hours)
On the final day, you’ll depart from Joshimath and head back to Haridwar by road. Bid farewell to the mountains and your fellow trekkers, returning home with lasting memories of your Kuari Pass adventure.
